Operating since 1994, The Actors Workshop is the leading private provider for acting training in Queensland.
In 1999, The Actors Workshop benchmarked private training for actors with the accreditation of the Advanced Diploma of Film, Television and Theatre Acting.
The qualification was the first of its kind to house dedicated application to both the live and camera mediums throughout the duration of the entire course. This dual medium ship gives graduates the competitive edge in seeking employment as an actor.
With up to 28 contact hours per week, our Advanced Diploma students receive more practical experience, in front of the camera and on stage, than our competitors.
In addition to this, the work experience program, unique to the school, matches students with emerging film makers and has led to long lasting professional alliances. Since 2000, these alliances have resulted in dozens of industry awards..
The School is recognised throughout the industry, including film and television production houses, independent and professional theatre companies, university film schools and casting agents.
In 2004, the Principal, Lyn Kidd, was honoured by industry through being given the Kinetone award, for significant contribution to the film and television industry in Qld. She was the first woman and first educator to receive this prestigious industry award.
At the 2004 Queensland Training Awards The Actors Workshop was the State Winner of the Australian Council for Private Education and Training, Small Training Provider of the Year Award. This stands as testimony that The Actors Workshop offers Queensland's premiere training pathway for the film, television and theatre actor.
The school plays an important role in contributing to community training organisations. Actors from the school build their skills and gain experience through role play scenario assessments of trainee paramedics, counsellors, security staff and lawyers. In 2003, the Principal was awarded a shield for Excellence in Education from the QLD Commissioner for Emergency Services.
In 2010 Principal Lyn Kidd and Camera Class instructor Mungo McKay were awarded the Media Mates Award from the Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE for assistance given to the students from the Certificate IV and Diploma of Screen Media.
The school stands by its commitment to quality over quantity through maintaining an enrolment cap of students. By keeping the enrolment numbers low, our students are assured the best training and support available.

Receiving no funding from government, The Actors Workshop has survived and grown solely on the basis of student fees.
